ARCHITECTURAL GILDING AND STONE FINISHES – Create the mystery and elegance of the past with beautiful gilded surfaces. Apply an acid wash, add a patina and dutch metal gives the illusion of an ancient bronze or a faint glimmer of gold. The art of gilding with non-precious metals (composition gold, copper and aluminum), the process of aging with acids and creating a patina with dyes and glazes will be covered in this workshop. Pearlescent and interference pigments as well as bronzing powders produce incredibly beautiful finishes. Elegant and dramatic stones and marbles are fine finishes on fireplaces, cabinets, doors, millwork, etc. Many “tricks-of-the-trade” are covered in this popular workshop. Each student will complete 14 samples, some on crown molding, to enhance their portfolio.

SEMI-PRECIOUS STONES AND COMPLEX MARBLING – Intarsia inlays of semi-precious stones and complex marbles make stunning accents to furniture, fireplace mantels, doors, walls, floors and columns etc. Multi-layered glazes and unique tools are elements required to produce Malachite, Lapis Lazuli, Black and Gold (Portoro) and Yellow Sienna Marbles. Precise techniques to create these realistic stones and complex marbles set in Trompe L’Oeil moldings are covered in this workshop.

WALL MARBLING WORKSHOP – The design element of drifts and placement of veins on large surfaces are critical in the execuion of wall marbles. Colour, scale and asymmetrial balance on large horizontal and vertical surfaces are the concentration of study in this intense workshop. Realistic and fantasy marbles can turn any wall into a focal point of colour, texture and drama.
